

Born on a cotton farm in White Oak, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late Amos Kirkland and Etta Lee Cain. Frances graduated from White Oak High School in White Oak, NC in 1947. After graduation, she moved to the big city of Charlotte, NC and went to work as a telephone operator for Bell South (later AT&T).
Frances was the loving wife of Charles Edward “Ed” Dickson, Sr. They were married on February 17, 1957 in Charlotte, NC and moved to Hialeah, Florida where they established Gideon Baptist Church and raised three children. During that time Frances worked as a Supervisor for Bell South in Miami.
Ed passed away on May 9,1992. After his death, Frances returned to Fayetteville, NC and was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at Northview Baptist Church for nearly 30 years. Her last years were spent with her daughter’s family in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Her passions included playing the organ at church, teaching children to love Jesus through Child Evangelism Fellowship, Awana Clubs and Sunday School, which she pursued her entire life. She loved God’s word and organized a monthly family bible verse memorization chain.
She is survived by her three children; Charles Edward “Chuck” Dickson, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC, Michael Dickson, husband of Doreen, of Marietta, PA and Paula, wife of Dennis Mercer, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; a sister, Nancy Smith of Raeford, NC and a brother, Andy Cain of Fayetteville, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Samantha Dickson, Brandon Dickson, Bradley Dickson, Jeffrey Dickson, Rebekah Dickson and Emily Post and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jackie Hood and brother, Amos Cain, both of Fayetteville, NC and her daughter-in-law, Becky Dickson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at McEwen Funeral Home in Charlotte, NC on Friday, January 31 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Frances' memory to Northview Baptist Church.
