

Gail Gilreath Mitchell was welcomed home by her Lord Jesus Christ on January 29, 2020 after she passed away peacefully at her home in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Gail LaVerne Gilreath on June 26, 1944 in Macon, Georgia to James “Jimmie” T. Gilreath and LaVerne W. Gilreath. She graduated from Furman University in 1966.
Gail was a devoted and faithful daughter of Jesus Christ. Her most significant contribution to His kingdom was fulfilling the great commission by serving as a missionary for three years in Ukraine. At the time of her passing she was a member of Utica Baptist Church, Seneca, South Carolina.
Gail is survived by her son, James Mitchell and his wife Kellie of Williamsburg, Virginia; and her daughter Joanna (Mitchell) Papiernik and husband Charles “Chuck” of Charlotte, North Carolina; her sister, Joan Gilstrap and her husband Rick, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; her nieces Julie Miller and husband Lance of Winston-Salem; Claire McCaskill and husband Jamie of High Point, North Carolina; and Lauren Baxter and husband Jason of Durham, North Carolina. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Sarah, Elijah, Micah, and Julia Mitchell; and Alex and Jack Papiernik, West Page, Charlie Papiernik, and Walker Page.
The surviving family members want to thank the medical professionals and team members of the Carolinas Neuromuscular / ALS - MDA Center and the nurses and staff of Hospice and Palliative Care – Charlotte Region for the kindness, love and support they provided Gail during her illness.
A memorial ceremony and celebration of life service will be held at McEwen Funeral Service – Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. Internment will occur at Historic Riverside Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ) or Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region.
