Gerald Patrick Hickey

Rev. Mr. Gerald P. Hickey, 83, of Charlotte passed away on June 6, 2011. He was born on November 18, 1927 in Germantown, PA to John Lawrence Hickey and Catherine Doyle Cornell. Jerry moved from New York to Charlotte in 1972. Jerry dedicated his life to the church, he was an active member at St. Vincent de Paul since 1972. He was ordained to the permanent deaconate on May 29, 1983. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed gardening, fishing and loved the NY Yankees.

Jerry is preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Marie Hickey. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan; two sons, Brian (Beverly) of Charlotte and Kevin (Cindy) of Little Elm, TX; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 10 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. A Funeral Mass will be held at the church on Saturday, June 11 at 9:00 am. Burial will follow at Belmont Abbey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s honor to St. Vincent de Paul Building Campaign or a charity of choice. McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel is assisting the family.
