Glenn Mae Fogg Gillespie, born September 12, 1927, passed from earth to life eternal in heaven on January 3, 2024. Her love of God and her family, her delight in all things involving children, and her positive outlook in whatever came her way are a just a few of the many great attributes for which she will be remembered.
Glenn Mae was the youngest of three children and was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Sallie Fogg, her two older brothers Melvin Fogg Sr. and Royden Fogg, and an infant son. Left to treasure her memory are her daughters Anita Self (Will) of Graniteville, SC, Linda Eads (Bill) of Chetopa, KS, and Candace Russell (Glenn) of Charlotte; one nephew, Melvin W. Fogg, Jr. (Sandy) of Pawley’s Island, SC; grandchildren Becky Miller (Matt), Heather Burgess, Christopher Russell (Stephanie), Katie Craig (Felton), Jason Russell, and Jonathan Russell (Caitlin); and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was a native Charlottean and charter member of St. James United Methodist Church (now Assurance United Methodist). She worked as a bookkeeper for the federal government and many years at Walker’s Drug Stores of Charlotte. A lover of children, she served as a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader and, in her later years, a pre-school teacher. Through these activities, hundreds of children were blessed with her care, patience and unconditional love.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Peak Resources in Gastonia, especially those on the 100 Hall, for the loving care they provided to her for the past several years.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 8, at 1:00 PM o’clock at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, with a graveside service immediately following at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity serving children and perform a random act of kindness in her name.
