Herbert Gary Woody

Gary, age 82, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital - Matthews. Born on July 26, 1929 in Charlotte, he was the son of the late Herbert Plato Woody and Lura Turbyfill Woody. Gary graduated from Central High School in 1947. He began his newspaper career at The Charlotte Observer as a young boy carrying a paper route and retired after 46 years as Printing and Packaging Manager. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1954.

Those left to cherish Gary’s memories are his loving wife of 44 years, Judith Long Woody; daughter, Tracey Woody Collins and son-in-law, Dave Collins; his precious granddaughters, Brittyn and Adayre Collins; his brother, Ted Woody and sister-in-law, Judy; nephew, Tony Woody and his wife, Heidi and their daughter, Maisie; and his little buddy, Harley.

A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service with Reverend Albert Leath, officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Michael Martin at First Charlotte Physicians and his staff who cared for Gary for many years. Our heartfelt thanks also goes to Dr. Eva Agocs at Presbyterian Hospital - Matthews who made every effort on Gary’s behalf during his last days. We also want to thank the exceptional nursing staff at Presbyterian Hospital - Matthews and to our many friends and family who gave us their love and support during Gary’s illness.
