Herman Jay Hubbard

Herman is survived by his adored wife, Alease, of Charlotte; his only child, son Felix and wife Carol of Charlotte; his beloved granddaughters: Beverly Maynor and husband Ben of Concord, NC, Heidi Giffin and husband Jim of Charlotte and Whitney Barkman and husband Mike of Santa Barbara, CA and his six great-grandchildren: Jackson, Benjamin and Addison Maynor, and Molly, James and Rebecca Giffin. He is also survived by his baby sister, Mozelle Busto and husband John, sisters-in-law Betty Hubbard and Lois Hubbard and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved so much.

Herman is predeceased by his parents, Eula Russell Hubbard and Fred Garfield Hubbard; his sisters Athelene, Clara and Kathleen; and his brothers Frank, Clyde, James, Olin and Vernon.

Herman was born on July 10, 1924 in the Long Creek community in Huntersville, NC. He graduated from Kings Business College in Charlotte. Throughout his career, Herman worked in business administration and retired from Mecklenburg County as an auditor. Herman and Alease were married on May 14, 1950 and would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this week.

Herman was a humble man with a kind and very generous heart. He took great pride in having the best-looking lawn on his street and looked forward to the warm weather when he could get outside and work in his yard and plant his summer garden. He baked the most delicious coconut cakes for church functions and Christmas holidays. He lived his life by God’s word, adored his wife, was so proud of his son Felix and cherished every moment spent with his precious granddaughters whom he called his “little dolls.”

There are two friends for whom the family is grateful for: Herman had a standing lunch date on Mondays with his pastor, Rev. Dale Shields and he had the utmost respect for his doctor, Dr. Scott Moss.

Visitation is set for 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2019, followed by the funeral at 2:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park located at 5716 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC. Burial immediately following.
