

Hobart Brian Cheyne, known affectionately as HB, passed away on June 23, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. Born on September 18, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Kansas, HB lived a life marked by devotion to his family, his faith, and his community.
HB graduated with a BA from The Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburgh. He proudly served as a Lt. in the United States Navy from 1943 through 1946, demonstrating a commitment to his country during a time of global conflict. Following his military service, HB built a successful career at Equitable Insurance as a Chartered Life Underwriter and Certified Financial Planner. His passion for helping others extended into his retirement, where he volunteered assisting the elderly with their tax returns and served as a counselor at Jacob’s Ladder Job Center, Inc.
Known for his generosity and kindness, HB was a pillar in his community and a devout Christian. His easy laugh and attentive listening made him a beloved figure among all who knew him.
HB was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Katherine S. Cheyne. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Cheyne Lamb and son-n-law, Robin M. Lamb of Charlotte, NC; son, Randell B. Cheyne of Charlotte; grandchildren, Meredith Lamb Mobley (Paul Mobley) of Fort Mill, SC, Katherine E. Lamb of Pineville, NC; Hutcheson N. Cheyne, Texas, and great-granddaughter, Elanor Katherine Mobley.
The family will receive friends at McEwen Pineville Chapel one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2024. Interment will follow at Crown Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte, honoring HB’s love for animals and his charitable spirit.
