James Arthur Cadmus, “Jim,” was welcomed into the world on September 11, 1948, in Toledo, OH. After growing up in Akron, Ohio, Jim earned his BS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toledo and his MS in Management Science from Penn State University. He spent his career evaluating processes/procedures and providing advice to help organizations operate more efficiently, primarily within the healthcare industry. He was good at telling others what to do and how to do it better. Living with a houseful of women, he was used to attitudes and eyerolls, so he could handle any situation. James even took a few risks and ventured out on his own with some startup/private companies. He concluded his career working as an independent consultant. Jim was an astute business traveler. Jim and his family lived in Ohio, South Carolina, and Old Hickory, TN, before finally settling in Charlotte, NC.
Jim left this world for a better destination on Monday, June 9, 2025, in Charlotte, NC. Jim is a son, brother, cousin, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed. Although he struggled with some health issues, especially over the last couple of years, the timing and cause of his death was unexpected. Jim did not want a funeral or celebration of his life, but knowing him he probably just wanted to save a buck.
Anyone who met Jim knows he liked to talk. He never met a stranger, and he always found a way to get people to share their life stories. Jim truly enjoyed conversing with people. Whether you were a passenger, flight attendant, grocery store employee, hired contractor, bar-goer, co-worker, sports fan, neighbor, or friends with one of his daughters, he wanted to get to know you. The unique thing is he didn’t really want to talk about himself, rather he listened and later recalled stories others had shared. He also had a great sense of humor, sometimes embarrassingly so, depending on the jokes he told. Jim loved the outdoors, especially the beach.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Wendell Duane Cadmus and Patricia Kehoe Cadmus, of Akron, OH. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen Lord Cadmus; his daughters Holly Walsh (Bryan), Heather Cadmus, and Hillary Cadmus; his sister, Linda Cadmus Hardman (Doug) of Rocky River, OH; nephews and their families; and eight grandchildren - Catherine, Patrick, Zachary, Mary, Gabriella, Sebastian, Cecilia, and Kolbe Walsh.
In the words of St Therese of Lisieux, “Love embraces all times and all places because it is eternal.” We love you, Dad!
