

James W. Capps, Sr. 88, of Albemarle, formerly of Charlotte, went home to be with Jesus on February 10, 2026. James was the husband of Carolyn M. Capps for 65 years. Now reunited together in Heaven, James passed 6 days after Carolyn.
James was a native of Mecklenburg County, NC and the son of the late William Bryant and Jennie Mae Byrum Capps of Charlotte, NC. He worked at Southern Engineering in Charlotte, NC as a welder.
James loved to travel around to visit friends and family. James was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to deer hunt, rabbit hunt, raise and train beagles, fish, and play golf. James loved Nascar and Dale Earnhardt #3. He loved good meals and spending time with family and his grandchildren.
James is survived by his children: Rhonda Strickland of Albemarle, NC; James W. Capps, Jr. of Gaffney, SC; Patricia Morgan of Albemarle, NC; Mark Capps of Chester, SC, and Ronnie Capps of Kingstree, SC. Brothers; Larry Capps of Lowell and Ed Capps of Clover, SC, and many loved grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by brother Billy Byrum Capps of Gastonia, and sister Betty Doris Jolly of Lancaster, SC.
A joint grave side service with wife Carolyn M. Capps will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. Services will be held at Berry Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 9801 Walkers Ferry Rd., Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the graveside service from 12:30-1:30 pm at McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC, 28208.
