Growing up in Kansas, he graduated from Hiawatha High School and furthered his education at Highland Jr. College in Highland, Kansas. Jim had lifelong fond memories of his classmates and basketball teammates from this time. Jim next attended and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in business. This is also where he met his future wife. He would later earn an MBA from the University of Southern California.
Jim’s career in financial services began in 1962 when he joined Bank of America’s Management Trainee Program in Southern California. After 42 years, he retired from Bank of America in 2004, having spent much of his career leading corporate banking credit risk management functions.
The joy of Jim’s life was his family. He married the love of his life, the former Janice Lee Edwards, on June 22, 1963. During their 50 years of marriage, they enjoyed the experiences of living and raising a family in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo, New York and Chicago. Jim enjoyed reading, genealogy and amateur photography. During his and Jan’s retirement they enjoyed travelling and spending time with family. He was a loving and doting husband, father and grandfather. After the passing of his wife in 2013, Jim relocated to Charlotte, NC where he was able to spend plenty of quality time with his sons and their families.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Harriet Christie; and sisters, Beverly and Vickie.
He is survived by his children, Jeffrey “Jeff” Christie (Nora) and Christopher “Chris” Christie (Annemarie); and his six beloved granddaughters Emma, Olivia, Brooke, Julia, Ashleigh and Susannah; all of whom live in Charlotte.
