James Godwin

James Albert Godwin, 80, of Charlotte, NC, died Sunday, January 27, 2013. Born in Calhoun County, St. Matthews, South Carolina on October 21, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph Godwin and Mary Bell Strickland Godwin. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Cecil Tyler Godwin.

He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Unity Sunday School class, and the Harrisburg Chapter of Lions Club International.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family deeply, he is survived by his three children, Janesta Godwin, Joseph Godwin of Charlotte, and Kimberly Goode, of Kannapolis, NC; three grandsons, Joseph (Kelly), Jeremy, and Justin Godwin; sister, Vernell Ervin of North, SC; niece Jacqueline Black and nephews Paul Hendricks and John Scott Hendricks of South Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at McEwen Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212 with Rev. Arnold Kessler officiating. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 29, 2013 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the McEwen Charlotte Chapel.
