James McKinley Long

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, December 22, 2014 at Christ United Methodist Church, Reverend Jim Humphries officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00AM. Entombment will follow the service at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.

Jimmy was born in Charlotte August 2, 1938 and was son of the late Henry McKinley Long and the late Avis Adams Long Strating. He was a member of Trinity UMC and attended Christ UMC for the last few years. He along with his late wife Carol, attended North Mecklenburg High School. He worked opening and remodeling Family Dollar Stores for more than 20 years. He later owned and operated Jim Long Window and Door Company in Charlotte for over 15 years.

Surviving are his daughter, Robin Rhodes and husband, Jeff, son Kenny Long and wife, Kim, all of Charlotte, grandchildren, Will Saxon, Anna Rhodes, Tiffany Barber and husband, Brad, Neely Long and Laney Long. Great-grandchildren, Jake Barber and Ella Barber; brother, Bobby Long and wife Mozelle, and all of his long-time breakfast buddies and golf buddies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Carol Fisher Long, brothers, Billy Long and Dickie Long, sister, Patricia Pickett and step-father, Reverend John Jack Strating.
