Jim was born on March 24, 1950 in Winston- Salem, to the late Blaine and Helen Possinger. In 1975 Jim moved from Winston- Salem to Charlotte, where he lived the rest of his years.
During his younger years he began working for Southern Bell, now AT&T, and continued working for them until he retired in 2012 for a total of around 40 years. In 2021 he retired from Eastway Church of God after 25 years, where he also served as a musician.
