He was born July 16,, 1931 in Alton, NC to James Miller Rorie and Alice Starnes Rorie. Jim was proceeded in death by his sister, Elsie Crook, daughter Kimberly Renee Rorie and stepson, Scott Bush.
He was a humble servant of the Lord at Providence Presbyterian serving in any capacity he could. He was a member of Oasis Shriners for 50 years serving in many positions such as Director, Recorder and Chair of the Shrine Bowl and was awarded Life Membership in Jester Court 109. Jim retired after over 40 years as a prominent and successful home builder in the Charlotte area. He was a member of “The Breakfast Club”, a wonderful friend and an active gardener who shared with all. As a devoted “pop,” he spent his spare time crafting custom furniture pieces that will remain treasured mementos for his loved ones. He was a legendry problem solver that would go to any length to help his family and friends. Having never met a stranger, his stories will continue to live on.
He is survived by his three sisters; Joyce Baker and Sue Cox of Monroe, NC and Mable Osborne of Fort Mill, SC, as well as many nieces and nephews; his blended family that includes wife, Brenda Rorie, daughter Cynthia Rorie Gross (Andrew), granddaughter Samantha Metts (Nicholas), great-grandchildren Walker and Sawyer Metts; daughter Linda Rorie Watson (Daryl), granddaughters Savanah Watson, Melanie Whisnant (Matthew); son James Fleming Rorie Jr (Nicole); Beth Bush, grandchildren Kathryn, Blake, William; Kyle Bush (Kelly), grandchildren, Brandi (Nick), great-grandchildren Collin and Caitlin; and grandchildren Jessica, James and Christopher.
