

James Burton (Jimmy) Williams was born in Henderson, Tennessee, and lived most of his life in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Tennessee where he grew up. He enjoyed a 43 year career in the retread tire business with multiple companies including Monkey Grip, where he served as President, Long Mile, Goodyear, Oliver, and Cooper Tires.
Jimmy married Virginia Harris 65 years ago. Together they raised two children, Laura Lea (Phil) and James Burton, Jr. (Nicole), and he was the proud grandfather of Trey, Molly (Austin), Mary Charlotte, Tripp, and Caroline.
A graduate of the University of Memphis (Memphis State), Jimmy earned an undergraduate degree in History and a graduate degree in Educational Administration before beginning his career in sales.
Jimmy was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was always a good listener and trusted friend. He volunteered through his college fraternity, Sigma Chi and local churches of Christ where he served as a deacon. He was also a proud member of the Air National Guard Reserve.
During his career and in retirement, Jimmy and Virginia traveled the world together, visiting a dozen countries and traveling with family and friends. Jimmy was an avid golfer enjoying golf outings for many years with his fellow golfers.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas James Williams, mother, Sue McBride Williams and sister, Tommie Jean Polk, all of Henderson, Tennessee.
A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held on December 20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of Christ at Gold Hill Road, 1055 Gold Hill Rd., Fort Mill, SC 29708.
