

Jane Sox Monroe passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016. She was born in Hickory, NC on February 6, 1934 to Everett J. Sox and Pauline F. Sox. Jane was married for 58 years to her husband, W. Paul Monroe.
In addition to her husband, Jane is survived by her three sons, Will and wife Pam of Sherrills Ford, Charles and wife Angela of Charlotte, and Thad and wife Amy of Hickory. Jane and Paul have six grandchildren: Anne of Asheville, Rachel and husband Morgan of Conover, Caroline of Charlotte, John, Clegg and Mollie Sox of Hickory, and one great-grandchild, Riley of Charlotte. She is also survived by Paul's brother, Thad and his wife Coolie.
Jane graduated from UNC-CH School of Nursing in 1956. After marrying Paul and returning to Hickory, she helped start the nursing program at Lenoir Rhyne College. Later, she served as chairman of the Catawba County Board of Health. During her time in Hickory, Jane was an active member of the Hickory Service League. She was proud to have served on the UNC-CH Board of Visitors.

A celebration of Jane's life will be held 10 am Monday, April 18th, at First Presbyterian Church in Hickory. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
