Janet Mayer

Janet Blevins Mayer, 62, of Charlotte, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on December 19, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. She was born October 9, 1955 in Knoxville, TN, a daughter of the late Oscar Delance Blevins and Geneva Mynatt Blevins. Janet was a graduate of Tates Creek High School and the University of Kentucky, both in Lexington, KY.

Janet worked in the retail industry for more than 30 years as a buyer for Mercantile and The Cato Corporation. She will be remembered for her cheerfulness and as a loving wife, sister, aunt , and grandmother. Janet was known for always wearing a smile.

Survivors include her husband Robert P. Mayer, Jr. of Charlotte; her mother, Geneva Blevins; her step-daughter, Wendy Baker and husband Derrik; grandchildren, Natalie, Kelsi, Logan, and London Baker of Dahlgren, VA. Also surviving are her brothers Gary and wife Elisa of Charlotte, NC; Gregg Blevins of Clover, SC; sister, Laura Sparks and husband Louis of Lawrenceburg, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, December 22, 2017, at McEwen Pineville Chapel where the family will receive friends an hour prior. Her burial will be at 2:00pm on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville, TN. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to: 24 Foundation, 801 E. Morehead St., Suite 308, Charlotte, NC 28202 or Humane Society, 2700 Toomey Ave Charlotte, NC 28203.
