Joan Harris York

Joan was born on November 13, 1933 to L.C. and Audrey (Brown) Harris in Oxford, NC. She moved to Greensboro, NC which is where she accepted Christ as her Savior on November 7, 1952. She met the love of her life, Thomas Allen York, while singing in the choir at the church they attended. They were married on March 31, 1956 and shortly thereafter moved to Germany where Tom was stationed in the Army.

After returning home, they soon settled in Rutherfordton, NC and later moved to Charlotte in 1970.

Joan worked as a secretary for a law firm, as well as for several churches, before retiring in 1988.

She was an active member of Calvary Church since 1975. She enjoyed singing in the choir, attending ladies’ Bible studies, and was a strong supporter of the missions at Calvary.

Joan enjoyed traveling the world, meeting new people, helping her friends and family whenever needed, and sharing the gospel of Christ.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband (Tom) and is survived by her two children: Natalie Batissa of Atlantic Beach, FL and Brenda Swing (LeRoy) of Waxhaw, NC. She was also blessed with six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Calvary Church in the Chapel at 1:00 pm located at 5801 Pineville-Matthews Road, Charlotte, NC, 28226. A private graveside service will be held for the family prior to the memorial service at Sharon Memorial Park.
