

Born on December 14, 1933, in Kershaw, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lucas Boyd Johnson and Wilma Knight Johnson. She attended Woodlawn Elementary and Sharon High School in Charlotte.
She was a long time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Charlotte.
Joanne was married in 1953 to the late Charles Byron Hawkins. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and “ Great Gran”.
Her greatest joys were working in her yard, trips to the mountains, and St. Augustine, Florida, spending time with her family, making Christmas goodies, and decorating her home. She was incredibly artistic and very creative.
She is survived by her loving sister, Brenda Scarboro and her husband Ken, four daughters, Lisa Farrar of Charlotte, Gaye Taylor of Gastonia, Janet Hawkins of the home and Dawn Collis and husband Rob of Gastonia, five grand children- Lori Farrar, Allison Taylor Leary, Travis Taylor, Emily Collis Nobles, Hailey Collis Weeks, and three great grand children, Liam and McCartney Leary, and Cameron Farrar, and three nieces whom she loved dearly… Sherry Caskey, Jan Montgomery, and Melanie Fitzgerald.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Daniel Farrar.
A private viewing for family only, will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at McEwen Pineville Chapel.
A private graveside service will follow at Pineville Cemetery.
