

John David Frye, 87, currently of Indian Land, South Carolina, and formerly of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, the 14th of September, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born the 15th of July, 1938 in Cramerton, North Carolina to the late Glenn and Mae Puckett Frye. His family moved to Great Falls, South Carolina when he was a young boy. He graduated from Great Falls High School on May 29th, 1956.
Dave, as we was known, served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. While stationed at Fort Fisher, he met Charlotte Strickland of Wilmington, North Carolina and they were married on October 19, 1957.
Dave attended Central Piedmont Community College obtaining his journeyman’s electrical license and passing the state exam in 1967. Frye Electric Company was founded in 1967 on Euclid Avenue and by 1984 had enlarged to a new office building and lighting center on South Boulevard. He retired from Frye Electric Company in April of 2010.
Dave served as an officer of Home Builders Association of Charlotte, taught at the Carolina’s Construction Training Council, and was an officer of the Pineville, NC chapter of the Lions Club. He also participated in the Team Works program with the Square D corporation and was a member of Kingsway Baptist Church. He was an outdoorsman being an avid hunter and fisherman and loved anything around the water. He was an original Panthers PSL owner and loved to play poker and pool. Dave was known to family and friends as a wonderful fun-loving man while generously providing and caring for many family members and his beloved wife, Connie whom he married in December 2005.
He is survived by his wife Connie Frye, his children: Kim Thompson, Sharon Tomlinson and her husband, Chuck, David Frye, II, Step Children: Scott and Heather Harlow, Lisa and Richie Roberts and Lori and John Lizewski; he was “Pop” to his fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren and his sister, Barbara Craig and her husband, Vester of Cramerton, NC
The Frye family will greet friends from 10:30 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, the 19th of September, 2025 at McEwen Funeral & Cremations at Forest Lawn West. A service to celebrate his life will be at 11:00 AM in the Chapel with burial to follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
