He was born on October 20, 1939 in Charlotte, NC to the late John Calvin McManus Jr. and Bernice Phifer McManus. John graduated from Harding High School and went on to study at Charlotte College. After college, John worked as an Accountant, notably for Barclay’s American Mortgage Company, where he retired at the age of 55.
John married Judy Stinnett in Garden City, SC in 1975; getting married at the beach was only natural for them, as it was their favorite place to be. Once John and Judy both retired, they moved to Murrells Inlet. He loved feeding the turtles with his grandchildren in the pond behind his home, and occasionally he would see an alligator, which he loved to tell his family and friends all about.
John was an avid fisherman, enjoyed golfing with his friends, and, at one time, was part of a bowling league with Judy. As a diehard Panthers fan, he loved catching a football game on TV, and excitedly rooted for the Panthers right up until his passing.
Those left to honor John’s memory include his daughters, Kimberly McManus Walker and Julie McManus Farlow; and his granddaughters, Hayden Stimart, Sophia Farlow, Genevieve Farlow, and Adeline Farlow; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy Stinnett McManus; and his beloved family dog, Snuglette (“Snuggles”) McManus.
The graveside service will be conducted at 12:00pm on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University.
