Joyce was very involved with the Girl Scouts as a troop leader and enjoyed the trips they took together to Washington, DC and Savannah, GA. She attended school in Charlotte, NC and graduated from West Mecklenburg High School.
In 1963, Joyce married the love of her life, Jay Diggs, at Chapman Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.
As an avid fruit and vegetable gardener, Joyce kept up a large home garden. She would often work tirelessly to can dozens of jars at a time – notably green beans and corn. Joyce is also remembered fondly for her excellent cooking skills, her devotion to her grandchildren, and for the beautiful homemade greeting cards she would gift her family on special occasions.
Those left to remember Joyce include her husband of 58 years, Jay; her sons, Ernie (Kerri) Diggs, Mark (Julie) Diggs, and Kenny Diggs; her grandchildren, Jay, Shannon, and Holly; her sister and best friend, Jean Cranshaw; as well as numerous loving relatives, neighbors, and friends.
Joyce is now reunited with her parents, Harold and Josephine; her sister, Joanne Spidel; and her brother, Don Grove.
A memorial service to honor Joyce will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Independence Hill Baptist Church, 10220 Independence Hill Rd., Huntersville, NC. A visitation will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce’s name to Independence Hill Baptist Church.
