Joyce Dean Baucom Smith

Joyce Dean Baucom Smith, 72, of Mount Pleasant, NC, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Mount Pleasant House. A native of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Fred Hampton Baucom and Lena Mae Rushing Baucom. She was of the Baptist faith and was a teacher at Briar Creek Road Baptist Child Development Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Smith; by a daughter, Patricia Ann Smith; and by her sisters, Mary Patton and Nancy Squires.

Joyce is survived by her son, Darryl Smith (Tammy) of Oakboro, North Carolina; by her daughter, Gloria Wilhousky of Kannapolis, North Carolina; by her sisters, Gladys Helms (Ronnie) of Monroe, North Carolina and Gloria Brandon (Bob) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and by her brother, Donald Baucom (Mary) of High Rock Lake, North Carolina. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Nicole Thomas, Chris Deruelle, Brooke Thomas, Hailey Thomas, Tara Smith and Great-Granddaughter, Ava Harwood. A number of nieces and nephews also survive her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 6:00 PM with the Rev. Tim Aukerman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 8:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Rd #250, Charlotte, NC 28209 in memory of Joyce.
