Karen Thompson

Charlotte, N.C. - Karen Gregory Thompson, 64, of Charlotte passed away on November 8, 2017 after battling cancer. She was born June 6, 1953 in Burlington NC, the daughter of the late Clyde and Mildred Gregory.

Karen graduated from Western Carolina University and was with Wells Fargo for 40 years where she was a vice president providing training for the trust department. She loved cooking and everyone looked forward to her variety of cookies at Christmas.

Karen met her husband of 42 years, Brian, while they were attending college together. Although they had not known each other while on campus, fate arranged a meeting while traveling on a school sponsored trip to London. That magical moment led to their first date in Paris, later in that same trip, and has stayed strong to this day. His late father told Brian that marrying her was the best thing he ever did.

Besides her husband, Brian Thompson, she is survived by her brother William (Frieda) Gregory of Burlington NC, sister Marcia West of Stem NC, Sister-in-law Debbie (Charlie) McCrary Charlotte NC; niece Melissa (Brian) Long of Burlington NC; nephews Davis (Jennifer) Gregory of Burlington NC, Cameron (Melissa) McCrary of Lancaster SC, Austin McCrary of Charlottesville VA; great nieces Delaney and Brianna Long, Lacie Gregory; great nephews Luke Gregory, Austin Long and Jackson McCrary and her beloved cat, Sparky. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from her large extended family. Karen’s brother-in-law, John West, passed away shortly after Karen.

A drop-in gathering to visit with the family and share remembrances of Karen will be held at Forest Lawn West, Charlotte, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday November 18, 2017.
