It is with great sadness that family and friends shared their final goodbyes with Lori Alice Meacham, Ballantyne, who passed at Atrium Pineville hospital on November 24th, 2024, after a brief but hard fought battle with that most evil of perpetrators, metastasized cancer.
Lori was born on October 20, 1962, in Rome, NY to Richard Earl and Ruth (O’Dell) Meacham, who raised her to be loving, strong and independent. She grew up in the small Central New York town of Westmoreland, surrounded by a large extended and close-knit family.
Lori graduated from Central City Business Institute and SUNY College of Technology before beginning a long career in the insurance and finance fields. She started her work career at Metropolitan Life Insurance in the 1980s and was most recently employed as a Benefits Specialist with Unum Disability Insurance. She brought to her work what she brought to life, tremendous knowledge and dedication, and a strong sense of loyalty and support for her coworkers.
In 2001, Lori left behind the long New York winters and moved to Charlotte NC, where she built a new family of steadfast friendships that supported one another through thick and thin. Lori’s friends describe her as kind, thoughtful and loyal. She was also a warrior when standing up for others. Her only intolerance was for intolerant people. She loved everyone for who they were, and where they were in their lives. Near her final days, her friends returned that loyalty ten fold, visiting and encouraging her, reminiscing and helping her find her way towards her final peace.
Lori was also an avid animal lover, sharing her home over the years with a succession of feline furbabies.
She was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her loving sister Susan Beth Meacham, Baldwinsville, NY and her mischievous cat Whiskey Rose, as well as a special Aunt Dodie (Sprague) and dozens of cousins. She is also survived by an incredible network of friends, whose love and support meant so much to her in her final days. Her sister extends special thanks to Ryan and Desiree.
There will be no public services at this time, but a celebration of Lori’s life will be planned at a later date.
To honor Lori’s memory, you may wish to make a donation to the Humane Society of Charlotte or your local animal rescue organization.
