Lorin Shaw, 88, passed peacefully to his rest at his home in Apopka, FL on Thursday, November 24, 2011 with his family at his side. Born on June 27, 1923 in Athens, GA, he was the son of the late George Carl Shaw and Pearl Huff Shaw. Mr. Shaw is survived by his wife Emily, formerly Emily Stillwell of Huntersville, whom he married 60 years ago this June on his birthday; two sons, Ronald Shaw, of Apopka, FL and Derwin Shaw, Thomasville, NC. Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers and was thus the last of his family.
He was a veteran and had the unusual distinction of serving first in the Navy and then in the Army. Most of his life he was involved in the trucking industry. Quiet but gracious and helpful he was always willing to help anyone he knew. Mr. Shaw grew up in Charlotte and then raised his family here. Until the frailty of age slowed him, he loved to travel and took his wife over most of the U.S. and even drove to Alaska once. Finally they settled and spent most of his retirement years in Burnsville, NC near where he and his wife went on their honeymoon. In his last years, he enjoyed spending time with his three grandsons.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, November 27th at the Derita Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service, 6300 Mallard Creek Road. Interment will follow in Gilead ARP Church Cemetery in Huntersville. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM prior to the funeral hour.
Dad, we love you, we will miss your and we will always remember your advice.
