Margaret Flora Lorane Lloyd Matthews

She was born on Aug. 11, 1935, in Baltimore, MD, to Joseph Daniel and Edna Groth Lloyd.

Mrs. Matthews received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the Colorado State Teachers’ College (now the University of Northern Colorado) in Greeley, CO. Prior to attending CSTC, she attended Mary Washington College (now the University of Mary Washington) in Fredericksburg, VA. She attended high school in Alexandria, VA. A lifelong Christian, Mrs. Matthews was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Springfield, VA for many years before relocating to Charlotte.

Survivors include her daughter, Kimberley I. Paulus (Keith), Charlotte; her son, Scott L. Matthews (Miranda), New Castle, DE; her two grandsons, Michael and Christopher Paulus, both of Charlotte; her sister-in-law, Christine Lloyd, FL; her niece, Cathy Oden Benckert (Art) Woodbridge, VA; and her nephews, David L. Oden, Alexandria, VA, Joseph D. Lloyd II, Jacksonville, FL and James Lloyd.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, from 10-11 a.m. at the McEwen-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, followed by her funeral service at 11 a.m. The Reverend Corrie McClary will officiate. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Matthews’ honor to the American Diabetes Association, 222 S. Church St., 336M, Charlotte, NC 28202 or the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., 2600 Network Blvd., Suite 300, Frisco, Texas 75034.
