Born on April 19, 1943, Marilyn was the daughter of Harold and Bertha Metzner. She graduated from Queens College in 1965 and went on to work for both Eastern Airlines and Western Publishing, where she retired in 1998 after a long and dedicated career.
Marilyn married her beloved husband, Wayne Jones, in 1965, and they shared 48 years together before his passing in 2013. They built a joyful life together filled with laughter, love, and a strong sense of family. She was also preceded in death by her sister Marcia Ingram, and her sister-in-law Janet Atkins.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jenny Jones-Goodwin (Travis) and Sally Jones (Ken), nieces Alexandra Atkins (Michael), Andréa Atkins, and Staci Atkins (Stephen), nephew Bryan Ingram, and her treasured grandsons, Henry Greene, John Paul Goodwin, and Jamie Goodwin, all of whom she loved fiercely and supported always.
Marilyn’s laughter would fill the room—especially when she was at her kitchen table with her sister-in-law Janet, drinking coffee, doing their nails, and laughing until they cried.
Marilyn never missed her Move and Groove classes at the YWCA or lunch with her “Curves Group,” where she found deep joy, friendship, and community. Her yard was her pride and joy, bursting with flowers she lovingly tended with a green thumb. She was an avid reader, an animal lover, and a devoted follower of politics—her love for MSNBC was unmatched, and you always knew what was on her mind. Her eye rolls were legendary, her opinions unapologetically honest, and her sense of humor ever present.
Marilyn lived fully, loved deeply, and made sure the people in her life knew exactly how she felt about them. Her spirit, her sass, and her laughter will be missed more than words can say.
A private service will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn’s memory to the YWCA, a local community garden, or the local library.
