Marilyn was born August 1, 1929 in Bennington, VT to the late Daniel and Anne Sharkey Doyle and lived in Greenwich, CT for the first 30+ years of her life. It's the place she always considered home. She was also predeceased by her brother Daniel Doyle and her sisters Dorothy Gavan and Kathryn Benham.
Marilyn was a graduate of Greenwich High School (CT) and the College of New Rochelle (NY). She received her master's from SUNY New Paltz and went on to a long teaching career before retiring from St. John's School (Binghamton, NY) in the mid-1990's. She moved to Charlotte in 1996 to be closer to her children and to escape the New York winters. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Charlotte.
Survivors include her four children: Katie Morrissey of Charlotte, William Morrissey of Charlotte, Michael Morrissey and wife Leah of Charlotte, and Mary Bart and husband John of Madison, WI; three grandchildren Brody, Charly, and Burke; and several nieces and nephews.
A private viewing is planned for June 27. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation of school supplies to a school of your choice in Marilyn's name.
