Rev. Marion Robert Epps Sr., 93, of Charlotte NC was reunited with his beautiful wife of 65 years, Adelle Epps, and his Lord and Savior on April 1, 2019. Marion was born on March 25, 1926, son of Joseph Newton and Juliaett Jones Epps, of Augusta GA.
Marion served in the Army during WWII, Company B, with the 15th Armored Infantry Battalion and was honorably discharged on June 23rd, 1946. He served in combat and passionately as Chaplin's Assistant, earning Service Metal with 2-Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Occupation Medal (Germany).
Marion achieved an AB Degree, major in Bible and minor in Music from Mercer University in 1949, Bachelor of Sacred Music from Southwestern Seminary in 1953, Master of Religious Education in 1954 and Master of Church Music in 1960.
He served throughout his career in various churches and retired from McLean Road Baptist Church in 2016, as Minister Director of Music. He was also a substitute teacher, teacher’s assistant and assistant librarian with CMS. He also taught keyboarding and other classes at CPCC.
Marion and Adelle leave behind four children they adopted and adored: Melodie Ruth Epps of Conover, NC, Marion R (Bob) Epps Jr of Lowell NC, Martin Roger Epps of Gastonia NC
and the late Meredith Epps Cassell of Charlotte NC; five grandchildren Michelle Epps Bronson,
Miranda Epps Holland, Elisabeth Cassell Banks, Meredith Rachel Epps and Matthew Robert Epps; five great grandchildren Amberlea Lynn Sitler, Raiden Skye Bronson, Teagan Avery Dixon, Charlotte Renee Holland and Branson Dell Banks.
Marion said "I believe God called me to serve Him and I will try to the best of my ability to do His will.”
Marion and Adelle sacrificed to ensure their four adopted children would be taken care of for their entire lives and leave a legacy of love, compassion and generosity to be carried on for generations.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
