

Mark was born in Durham, NC on March 25, 1952 to the late Jacob Clarence and Mildred Goodman Margolis. He attended Durham public schools, graduating from Durham Senior High School in 1970. He went on to attend Lees McRae College, and he earned a B.A. in Psychology from East Carolina University in 1974.
Along with his father and brother, Mark was the co-owner of Margolis Insurance Agency in Durham for most of his life. He was a life-long member of The Million Dollar Round Table, and a long-time member of Judaea Reform Congregation and The University of North Carolina Educational Foundation.
Mark will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of golf, and his reveling in Duke basketball losses. Mark never met a stranger and was extremely proud of beating esophageal cancer in 2020. In his later years, he cherished time with family and friends.
Mark is survived by his son, David (Monica) of Statesville; daughter, Amy Korta (Luke) of Charlotte; and grandsons, Gordon and Austin Margolis and Charles Korta. He was preceded in death by his brother Norman.
Mark wished to be cremated; a memorial service will be held at a later date.
