Martha’s life was marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the simple joys that made life meaningful. She first came to the United States as a student at Sacred Heart Academy in Los Angeles, California, before returning to El Salvador, where she graduated from Bethany Academy in 1955. She later married the love of her life, Guido, and together they built a beautiful life and raised five children, whom Martha cherished deeply. In 1985, Martha returned to the United States, where she continued to be the heart of her family.
A devoted stay-at-home mother, Martha poured her love into caring for her children and creating a warm, welcoming home. She was known for her unforgettable smile, her incredible hugs and cuddles, and her natural ability to make anyone laugh. She was a gifted storyteller whose humor and warmth could light up any room.
Martha was also a phenomenal cook who loved sharing meals with her family. Her son Mario often joked that there were two types of people in the world, those who eat to live and those who live to eat, and Martha proudly belonged to the latter. Food, laughter, and togetherness were some of her greatest joys.
A devout Catholic, Martha lived her faith daily and was even blessed with the opportunity to meet the Pope. She was a parishioner at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and later attended St. Thomas Aquinas. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed playing solitaire, shopping, and never missed her daily telenovelas.
Martha will be remembered as a deeply loving, caring, and joyful woman whose kindness touched everyone she met. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Martha was predeceased by her husband, Guido Giammattei; her son, Mario Giammattei; her parents, Rafael and Concha Sobalvarro; and her sister, Carmen Giammattei.
She is survived by her children, Guido Giammattei, Maria Isabel (Mubashir Hussain) Giammattei, Maria Martha (Enrique) Muyshondt, and Francisco (Constance) Giammattei; her twelve grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A Mass will be held to honor Martha at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1400 Suther Rd, Charlotte, NC 28213, on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 10:30 AM. Martha will be laid to rest next to her husband, Guido, following the service.
Donations can be made in Martha's honor Susan G. Komen, Via Health Hospice or Atrium Hospice.
