Mrs. Church, age 91, of Charlotte passed away February 15, 2012 at her residence.
She was born September 8, 1920 in Chattanooga, Tennessee the daughter of the late Pleasant Lewis Burton and Florence Brooks Burton. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 29 years, John Whitfield Clayton Church, Sr., sister, Charity Virginia Burton, and brother, William Lewis Burton.
Mary loved the Lord and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She enjoyed spending time with the children of the neighborhood and cherished time spent with her grandchildren. Mrs. Church was also a graduate of Chattanooga High School and McKenzie Business College. She also did volunteer work for the Red Cross at local hospitals.
Surviving are her sons, Dr. John C. Church, Jr. and wife Dr. Therese Maxwell Church and Alan B. Church; and granddaughters, Nora Charlesworth, Joanna Finch and Alana Church.
A graveside service will be held 2:00PM Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, 5351 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
