Mary Mary Lou Louise Groll

Mary Lou was a wonderful outgoing person who loved her family and friends and loved to go out with them. She was always laughing and having fun, enjoyed anything Irish, especially around St. Patrick’s Day. She maintained a positive attitude, sense of humor and was a beautiful spirit. There will be another light in heaven today.

Mary Lou was born in Philadelphia, PA, and grew up in North Bergen and Norwood ,NJ. She graduated from Rosary Academy in Sparkill, NY, and Berkley Secretarial School in New York City. She worked for 6 years at the Fieldcrest Mills NYC office, before starting a family. With her husband's transfers, she raised her family in Westfield, NJ, Westerville Ohio, Monroe, CT, and Charlotte, NC. She most enjoyed her sales job at the Cubby Hole in the Charlotte Ballantyne area, working with many close friends and neighbors. She was a communicant of St. Matthews Church for 19 years.

Mary Lou is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, James T. Groll; son Tom and daughter-in law Megan Groll ; daughter, Caitrin Mary Groll and granddaughter Ada Elizabeth Groll. She is also survived by 2 sisters; Patricia Takacs (Gary) and Virginia Connolly (John) and 3 brothers, Philip Gallagher; Edward Gallagher and Thomas Gallagher (Susan) and 10 nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Mabry of South Charlotte Primary Care; Dr. David Miller of Blumenthal Cancer Center and Dr. Tom Shea of the UNC Bone Marrow program.

The family will receive friends on Thursday June 9 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday June 10 at 2:00 pm at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy., Charlotte, NC 28277.
