Melba Hendrick, our beloved Mom and Grandma, went to be with the Lord at her home in Charlotte on June 3, 2017. A home maker and baker, she was known for her giving heart, being a servant for Christ and for her amazing ‘Melba-cakes’. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Hendrick, to whom she was married for 29 years.
She has been a member of Resurrection Church for 45 years where she served on the Altar Guild. Her children include: Chelsi (& Grover) Smith, Erik (& Heather) Hendrick, Milinda (& Paul) Kirkpatrick, Kathlene Hendrick, Keith (& Megan) Hendrick and Merriwether Hendrick. She has 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Her love of animals and joy of sports has left a great legacy for our family, but most importantly she taught us the power of prayer.
On behalf of Melba, her family would like to express appreciation to the Saints at Resurrection for their loving support and prayers. We would also like to thank Dr. Matt McDonald; the nurses at the Infusion Center: Novant Presbyterian Main; Cyndi and Lakenya: Novant Hospice; Val, Shannon and Ruth: First Light Home Care; and Marie.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 9th from 6-8pm, at Resurrection Church, 2940 Commonwealth Avenue. A service to celebrate Melba’s life will be held the following day on June 10th at 1pm also at Resurrection. A private graveside ceremony immediately following the service will be held at Forest Lawn East.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shining Hope Farms (https://shininghopefarms.org) or Resurrection Church (http://www.reschurchclt.org)
