Mrs. Starnes, age 81, of Charlotte went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 24, 2012.
She was born September 10, 1930 in Shelby, North Carolina the daughter of the late Roy Lester Howard and Maggie Stewart Howard. She is preceded in death by her husbands, V.Q. Stroupe and Thomas Bert Starnes; 3 brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Starnes was an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and was a member of their Sunday school class. She had a heart of gold, enjoyed walking, and was devoted to her family with whom she often visited in Shelby, North Carolina.
Surviving are her sisters, Elizabeth Gantt, Nancy Brown and Ann Powell and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
A funeral Service will be held 11:30 am on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wendover Hospice House, 953 Wendover Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
