Nancy Dunlap Mahaffey

Born July 14, 1932, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the Late Dr. James Otho Dunlap and Elizabeth Sides Dunlap. Following graduation from Rock Hill High School, Nancy attended Sacred Heart College (now a part of Belmont Abbey). After college Nancy began her professional career in Atlanta before returning to South Carolina and meeting and marrying her husband, Carol Lloyd Mahaffey, Sr. in 1954.

Together during the span of their marriage of forty-four years, Nancy was devoted to her five children, was an active member of Carmel Country Club, and was dynamic leader in causes close to her heart – notably the American Heart Association, where she served as the Co Chairman of the Annual Heart Ball for several years.

She is survived by four children Carol Lloyd Mahaffey Jr. of Boise, Idaho, Barbara Mahaffey Carney of Raleigh, North Carolina, Nancy Jane McInnis of Mint Hill, North Carolina, and William Joseph Dunlap Mahaffey of Pineville, NC as well as eight beloved grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carol Lloyd Mahaffey Sr. and her son Charles Douglas “Doc” Mahaffey.

A service to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29th at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1623 Carmel Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. The family will receive friends following the service.
