It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rebecca Ann Brooks, who left this world on December 2, 2025, at the age of 50. Born on May 15, 1975, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Rebecca touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication.
Rebecca was the cherished daughter of C. Duane Brooks and Esther Bruckman Brooks. She grew up surrounded by the mountains of Altoona, and it was here that her love for life and learning blossomed. She graduated with her master’s degree in education from Pensacola Christian College, where she honed her passion for education and developed a deep-seated belief in the importance of nurturing young minds.
Rebecca's journey as an educator began with nine fulfilling years teaching in the Chicago area at Woodridge and Romeoville schools. Her heart, however, led her to a unique opportunity to teach missionary children in Brazil for three years, where she made lifelong friends and impacted countless lives with her warmth and enthusiasm for learning.
In 2007, Rebecca found her home at South Charlotte Baptist Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she devoted eighteen years to teaching. Her love for her students was evident in all she did. She believed in the power of community and was deeply involved with her church, playing the piano and flute and singing in the choir, bringing joy to many through her musical talents.
Rebecca’s hobbies extended beyond the classroom. She had a passion for cooking and loved spending time outdoors. Her nurturing spirit was reflected not only in her home but also in the lives of her students and church members, who will forever treasure the memories they made with her.
Rebecca is survived by her beloved parents, C. Duane Brooks and Esther Bruckman Brooks, and her two sisters, Rachel from Mechanicsburg, PA, and Ruth, who is currently residing in Germany. She is preceded in death by her beloved grandparents and aunt.
Rebecca’s radiant spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family will greet friends starting at 2pm on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at South Charlotte Baptist Church, located at 12416 Lancaster Highway in Pineville, NC. A celebration of Rebecca’s life will begin at 2:30 pm.
Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by Rebecca are invited to join in celebrating her remarkable life.
Following the service, Rebecca will be laid to rest at Alto-Reste Park in Altoona, PA, a place where her journey began and a serene resting ground where memories will forever bloom.
As we mourn her loss, let us remember the legacy she leaves behind—one of love, joy, and unwavering faith. Rebecca Ann Brooks will forever remain in our hearts, and her influence will continue to inspire all who were lucky enough to know her.
