Richard W. Larson

Richard Walter Larson, of Greer, SC, formerly of Charlotte, NC and Stamford, CT died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC.

He was born June 4, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred J. Larson. Mr. Larson attended St. Cecilia’s School and Cathedral High School, and was a graduate of Creighton University, Class of 1950, and earned an MBA degree from New York University in October of 1967.

Mr. Larson served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WWII. He joined IBM in June of 1950 where he remained employed until his retirement in June of 1987. He enjoyed travel, which took him to all fifty states and around the world to sixty three foreign lands. He saw all seven continents and sailed all the world oceans except the Arctic.

Mr. Larson was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Joan Kemmy Larson and a sister Anita Theisen and her husband James of Omaha,NE and is survived by one son John K. Larson and his wife Yvette of Stamford, CT and one daughter Lucy L. Marshall and her husband Herb of Greer, SC; sister Margaret L. McGuire and her husband Gerald of Littleton, CO; four grandchildren, John Christopher and Briana Lee Larson of Dallas, TX, and Mary Katherine and Evan Charles Marshall of Greer, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 3016 Providence R., Charlotte, NC 28211 with Father Frank O’Rourke Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Parklawn Veterans Court of Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, October, 11, 2010 at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd. Charlotte, NC 28210. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in the memory of Mr. Larson be made to the American Heart Association, 3535 Pelham Rd Ste 101, Greenville, SC 29615.
