

Born in Butler, PA on January 20, 1926, he was a son of the late Leroy and Margaret Means McConnell.
Following his graduation from Scott Township High School, Mr. McConnell served in the US Navy as a Crew Chief on a PBM Submarine Bomber during WWII.
During his employment as a mechanic for Capital Airlines, he earned his pilot’s license from the Pittsburgh School of Aeronautics and went on to fly corporately for RJ Reynolds Co., S&W Cafeteria, Atlantic Richfield Co., First Union National Bank, Lat Purser and Associates and Ivey’s Department Stores.
Mr. McConnell was a member of Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church and at one time was active in the Charlotte Youth Athletic Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Marge McConnell.
Survivors include his son, Dan McConnell and his wife Beth of Matthews and two grandsons, Matt and Rick.
Memorial services are planned for 1:00 pm Saturday, January 9, 2015 at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Rd., Charlotte.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
