Charlotte - Robert (Bob) George Miller died at home on January 1, 2019 at the age of 88. He was born February 9, 1930 in Irvington, NJ to Otto and Katherine Miller. Bob attended Irvington High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Architecture degree from North Carolina State University in 1953 and became a licensed architect in 1956. Following graduation, he worked for Odell Associates and was part of the team that designed Charlottetown Mall, which was the first enclosed shopping mall in the South. In 1962, he left Odell and joined Ferebee, Walters & Associates. After retiring from Ferebee, Walters & Associates, Bob continued his career working with Wayne Camas of Camas Associates Architects and remained an actively licensed architect to the present day.
Bob was a member of the Charlotte Section of the American Institute of Architects and served in numerous leadership roles throughout his career: Vice President (1962), Treasurer (1969), Vice President/President Elect (1980), and President (1982).
He was a member of the Charlotte Arborists Society and Trees Charlotte. Bob was a very involved parishioner, serving as an usher at St. Gabriel Catholic Church for over 50 years, and was the architect that designed the new church building located on Providence Road.
Bob is survived by his brother, James Miller (Judy); his children, Robby Miller, Katie Einbender (Steve), Greg Miller (Janet); and grandchildren, Madison Miller, Drew Einbender, Cole Einbender and Sam Miller.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 pm on Saturday, January 5th, in the fellowship hall of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte. The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Bob Miller will follow at 2:00 pm in the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Charlotte Arborist Society, Trees Charlotte or St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
