They are survived by a son Robert F. Sutthoff (Alice), their four grandchildren Michele Plyler (Douglas), Jeffrey Sutthoff (Sara), Amelia Margulies (Brian), Joseph Sutthoff (Mija), and eight great grandchildren, Vanessa Yevsin (Gennadiy), Nicholas Margulies, Vincent Margulies, Olivia Margulies, Aidan Plyer, Ethan Sutthoff, Gavin Sutthoff, Samuel Sutthoff and two great, great granddaughters Eva and Valerie. He and Phyllis retired to Lakeland, FL in 1988 where they enjoyed golfing and traveling to National Parks across US and Canada. While working in Iowa and Illinois they made many friends boating and camping on the Mississippi and Rock Rivers. They enjoyed having friends and family at their Florida home for vacations and holidays. They moved to Charlotte in 1998 to be closer to their son and growing family.
They were loyal members of the Sardis Presbyterian Church and helped with the Room at the Inn and enjoyed the friendship of their church’s early morning walking group. They stayed active golfing into their nineties and exercising at Silver Sneakers and always looked forward to their weekly neighborhood luncheon group.
McEwen Funeral Service is handling cremation and his ashes will be placed in the Columbarium at Sardis Presbyterian Church. Funeral service is at 2 pm at the Sardis Presbyterian sanctuary with a reception immediately following at the adjoining Education Hall of the church.
