

Born in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of Cecil McCoy McGinnis and Ethel “Tot” Christenbury McGinnis. Roland was preceded in death by his brother Joe Cecil McGinnis. Roland is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ida Ryan McGinnis, son Clifford Kelly McGinnis and daughter in law, Elise Sugar McGinnis of Charlotte, and grandchildren, Eliot McGinnis and Helen McGinnis.
Roland graduated from the last class of Thomasboro High School as salutatorian in 1951. After high school, Roland enlisted in the Air Force. It was during this time that he met Ida while attending church in Little Rock, Arkansas. They were married and moved to Columbia, SC after his time in the service where Roland got a degree in accounting from the University of South Carolina.
Roland was a founding member and deacon of East Baptist Church, founding member and deacon of Sardis Baptist Church, and attended First Baptist Church. Roland was a member of Calvary Church in Charlotte at the time of his death.
After retirement, Roland volunteered and tutored students at Rama Road Elementary School, and he helped with county elections. He loved to fish and enjoyed taking his grandchildren to ponds in the Charlotte area. Roland was a kind man and his family and friends will miss him greatly.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 18 at 1pm at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Funeral Service with military honors will follow beginning at 2pm.
Entombment will take place at Sharon Memorial Park.
