A native of Mooresville, Roy was born to the late Bertie Mae Johnson Jenks and Ernest Royal Jenks on May 4, 1924. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a longtime member of Third Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. Roy was an avid antique clock collector and in his later years enjoyed watching the colorful birds and wildlife that made their home in his beautiful landscaped flower filled yard. He was very caring and much loved by family and many friends. Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Charline Welker Jenks in 2005.
Mr. Jenks is survived by his sister-in-law Polly Welker Clark of Charleston, SC; nieces Jennifer Richey and Gloria Caldwell both of Charlotte, Janet Clark Mullins of Charleston; nephews James Welker Clark of Charleston, Davis Thompson Clark of Easley, SC and numerous grandnieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 23 at Third Presbyterian Church, 4019 Central Ave., Charlotte. A private interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
