

He was born October 1, 1925 in Greene County, North Carolina the son of the late Emmett Clyde Hoffman and Nannie Whaley Hoffman. He is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Daniels Hoffman and daughter, Betty Hoffman Gulley.
Mr. Hoffman served his country during WWII in the US Army where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was stationed in the Pacific Theater during the Southern Philippines Liberation. After his active service ended in 1946 he served with the Army Reserves until 1949. He then began a career in the trucking industry as a claims adjustor, retiring from Hemingway Transport and later employment with Harris Teeter until retirement. Rufus was also an active member of Eastern Hill Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Surviving are his children, Rufus “Rex” Hoffman, Jr. and wife Donna of Greensboro, NC, Jeff Hoffman and wife Lauren of Jacksonville, FL, Alan “ Scott” Hoffman and wife Cyndi of Fort Mill, SC, and son-in-law, Russell Gulley of Richmond, VA; sisters, Verna Dunn of Snow Hill, NC, Thelma Watkins of West Plains, MO, Faye Cox of Winterville, NC, Nannie Mae Barrow of Snow Hill, NC; Grandchildren, Abigail Hoffman, Jason Gulley, Casey Delaney , Leighton Serlo, Peter Hoffman, Adam Hoffman, and Emily Hoffman; Eight great grandchildren; and numerous other loving family members.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 10th at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 11, 2012 at McEwen Funeral Home, with the Rev Kevin Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery.
