Ruth Womble Hefner of Concord, formerly of Charlotte, went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2015. Visitation is at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Ruth was born January 1. Her family dares not to disclose the year of her birth. As she was quoted many times, "a woman who tells her age, will tell anything."
Ruth graduated from Harding High School and briefly worked at Southern Bell. Ruth married the love of her life, Jack Hefner in 1942, and her career was a loving homemaker. They had 12 children, ten boys and two girls.
She loved the Lord and loved her church families at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church, Peachtree United Methodist Church in Maggie Valley and Armenia United Methodist Church in Chester, SC. Ruth was proud to be an American and believed Jesus loved the Carolinas the best.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Jack, son Stephen, son Jack Richard, son Mark and grandson Michael.
Survivors are John (Lynda McCorkle ), Deborah (Victor), Rebecca, Karl, Eric (Kathy), Jeff, Daniel (Shelly), Babe (Robin), Bingham (Sharon), 22 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Also survived by sister, Pat Asti and many other family members.
Ruth touched so many lives with her beautiful grace, genuine open arms, her intuitive words of wisdom and her sprinkles of confetti. Ruth taught us how to live, how to love, and ever so importantly, how to dance. Dance On, Mama, Dance On.
Memorials can be made to Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church, 101 W Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, Shriners Hospital and Masonic Home for Children at Oxford.
Arrangements are by McEwen Funeral Service, Derita Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.mcewenderitachapel.com.
