Ruth Learlene Helms

Mrs. Ruth L. Helms, 86, of Monroe, NC, passed away on February 18, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare-Union. A native of Monroe, she was the daughter of the late Fred Alexander Helms and Lillie Elizabeth Deese Helms. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vern W. Helms, Jr. and by siblings Dorothy Thomas, Carniece Helms, Bryce Helms, Bernard Helms, Blair Helms, and Earlie Helms.

She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist tradition.

Mrs. Helms is survived by her daughters, Karen Ruth Funderburk (Irwin) of Monroe and Katherine Helms McInnes (Donald) of Fayetteville, GA. She is also survived by a sister, Rosa Lee Lowery of Mt. Gilead, NC and by a brother, Fred A. Helms of Charlotte, NC.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 22, 2016 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte. A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Helms will be held in the Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park at 2:00 PM on Monday with the Rev. Buddy Pigg officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the American Heart Association or to the National Cancer Foundation.
