

It is with heavy hearts yet deep gratitude for a well-lived life that we announce the passing of Samuel Paul Mercurio, who departed this life on March 24, 2026, at the age of 75. Born to Joan Malaszkiewicz and Samuel Victor Mercurio on August 19, 1950, in Pittsburgh, PA, Sam was a beacon of joy and warmth to all who knew him.
Sam was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Samuel and Joan, and his cherished wife, Suzanne Mercurio, with whom he shared a beautiful life marked by love and devotion. Together, Sam and Suzanne built a family rooted in love and support, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion.
A devoted father, Sam is survived by his loving children, Jayne Azalea Ohl, Joanie Pope, Bridget Burrows, and Matthew Mercurio. He was also the proud grandfather of Brendon, Patrick, John, Phoebe, Olivia, Emma, Elijah, Levi, Samuel, and Oliver, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. His family was the heart of his existence, and he cherished every moment spent in their company.
Sam pursued his academic aspirations by attending Penn State University, where he majored in History—a subject he held dear throughout his life. His passion for storytelling and history found a unique outlet in his career as a voice actor in movies and television, a profession where his resonant voice and captivating narrations touched many lives.
An active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Sam lived his faith through service and community involvement. As a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #10852 and the Screen Actors Guild, he dedicated himself to causes greater than himself, always striving to make a positive impact.
Sam’s love for sports was legendary, particularly his unwavering support for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. Later in life, he embraced the Carolina Hurricanes with the same fervor, a testament to his enduring passion for the game. Beyond sports, his love of American History and his favorite season, Christmas, brought him immense joy and fulfillment.
Described by those who knew him as faithful, funny, loving, brave, honest, and gentle, Sam embodied these qualities in every interaction, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his family and friends. His laughter, wisdom, and unwavering integrity will be dearly missed.
The family will greet friends on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 5 pm to 6:30 pm at McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel, located at 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11am on Monday, March 30, 2026 at St. Matthew Catholic Church Chapel located at 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway in Charlotte. Burial immediately following at Crown Memorial Park in Pineville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sam’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to Sam’s heart, at www.stjude.org.
As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we hold onto the memories and love he leaves behind, forever grateful for the time we shared with Samuel Paul Mercurio. His spirit will live on in the stories we tell, the laughter we share, and the love we give.
