Sam was an Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War. After graduating from Gannon College, Sam moved to Cleveland, Ohio where in 1965 he married Ollie (Ailene) Sacks. Sam and Ollie raised two daughters, Betsy and Nancy. Sam’s career in the steel industry led him and his family to Maryland. In 1978, Sam, Ollie, Betsy and Nancy settled in Charlotte where Sam launched Fairview Steel, Inc. Sam loved living in Charlotte where he and Ollie were members of Temple Beth El.
Sam is survived by his wife, Ollie Polk; his daughters, Betsy Joseph (Marc) of Chapel Hill, NC and Nancy Friedlander (Gary) of Naperville, Il, and his grandchildren, Michael Joseph, Annie Joseph, Drew Friedlander, Paige Friedlander and Melony Friedlander.
Sam’s family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregiver, Leopoldine Onganda and his Physical Therapist, Meghan Olin.
A graveside funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on June 8th at the Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Ave, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Novant Hospice or Charlotte Jewish Family Services.
