Sarah went to Park Road Elementary, Sedgefield Junior High, and Myers Park High school where she was a member of the Sedgefield connection group and graduated Myers Park in 1968. She then went on to attend Elon College and earned an associates degree in Secretarial Science. Her first job at First Union National Bank started in 1970 as secretary in Consumer loans. Forty years of work in the bank industry made for some great life long friends and memories before being displaced with the Wells Fargo merger.
Sarah married John Thomas Rhyne Sr at Little Church on the Lane in 1970. They lived 25 years on Seneca place now known as Madison Park. Sarah and John had two sons, John Thomas (Tommy) Rhyne Jr in 1977 and Andrew Earl Rhyne in 1982. Tommy graduated from Olympic high school and UNCC, He is currently employed by Truist, formerly BB&T. He is married to Melissa Rhyne and currently lives in Fort Mill SC with two children Kaleb Brandt Rhyne and Summer Baxlie Rhyne. Andy graduated from Myrtle Beach High School and UNCC and currently works for Atrium in Charlotte and lives in Indian Land. He has one daughter Emmalyn Rhyne. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. Many trips to Disney World and a couple of Disney cruises were enjoyed by all. It was her happy place and favorite way to vacation with her loved ones.
In 1995 Sarah and John transferred to Myrtle Beach late in her career building their dream home. She worked with First Union as a lender and branch manager that covered Myrtle Beach, Surfside, Wilmington and Charleston. Living in Myrtle Beach in a home they built together was a favorite until John and Sarah divorced in 2002 after 33 years of marriage. Sarah moved to the Ballantyne area to be closer to her kids and grandkids where she resided for several years before moving to Tree Tops in Lancaster County.
Sarah loved people and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed her trips to Disney especially during the annual flower and garden festival. One of her greatest memories was her trip to London in 1993 Chaperoning the Olympic High school band performance at Royal Albert Hall followed by a family trip in 1994. She also loved to read, especially books by Dorothea Benton Frank, cross stitch, and shopping at Talbots and Homegoods.
A service will be held for Sarah Rhyne on Saturday, May 11th at 1pm at Little Church on the Lane. Friends and family are welcomed for fellowship at the home of her son and daughter in law, Tommy and Melissa Rhyne. 564 Fair Oaks Drive Fort Mill SC 29708.
